I make custom knives that are meant to be used, as well as sheaths, and the purpose of my site is threefold:
- to display a few of the standard products that I make repeatedly as well as some of the work I have done in the past,
- to engender a better understanding of what I believe is a remarkable science,
- to interact with you, my present and potential clients.
The link between my CC name and my domain name is quite definite: one is the translated Latin name, no prizes for guessing which is which.
The concept of being "never not prepared", is one that appeals extremely strongly to me. What do I mean? Well, what happens if you do not service your car? She begins to run inefficiently and will eventually, in a worst case scenario, stop running. If you now need to use the car, especially in an emergency situation, you are NOT prepared to do so. I am not even going to go into the possible consequences of that. Suffice to say that a philosophy of being prepared is something I believe you should try and cultivate in every aspect of life.
One way I have found to be prepared is by having a knife with me everyday and I know that many of you have found the same. This simple fact, combined with the passion I have for knives and crafting them - the feel of the steel, the appearance of a clean grind, the liveliness of a well balanced knife, I could go on for hours - is what has resulted in this site and gently growing business.
I am not selling any knives through the site at present, for a number of reasons: something I gain great fulfillment from is customer satisfaction and the best way to gauge this is, I believe, is face to face. As far as is possible then, I do try and conduct my business in this manner, within reason of course. A second reason, and one that some would have differing opinions about, is proposed legislation in South Africa to render the selling of knives over the internet illegal in this country. Although nothing has been finalised as yet, I am merely preparing for that eventuality.
What makes me different?
There a number of differentiating factors, but the ones I would like to highlight are the following:
- I focus greatly on customer service
- I am technically oriented and have strong attention to detail
- I am always willing to learn and am not afraid to ask questions
- I believe it is vital to communicate clearly
