How can I care for my knife properly so that it not only functions optimally, but also lasts as long as possible?

A good quality knife, like any investment, is special both due to its nature as well as due to the bond you develop with it through use and the associated reliance on it. As such, you certainly want it to last, if possible through your life time and be ready for use through out.
